Fall Back Festival

11/06/11 This annual Historic Children’s Street Faire falls on the Sunday that ends daylight savings time. Come enjoy the world’s only festival that celebrates history by “falling back” in time. Tons of young children’s activities, entertainment, food, demonstrations and lots of family fun.

Experience life in San Diego in the 1800s by heading on down to the historic Gaslamp Quarter for real gold pannin’, authentic Wild West shootouts, western bands and fun interactive activities. This annual children’s historic street faire will feature ice cream eating, pig calling, spaghetti eating and a costume contest. Kids will also love the pony rides, wagon rides and a chance to visit the William Heath Davis House for a tour of the “House of a Thousand Spiders.”

Pearl Harbor Rememberance Day at Veterans Museum

12/07/11 The San Diego Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors, the largest chapter in the United States, will honor those who served and fell during the battle of Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.

The ceremony is open to all visitors.

Ceremony starts at 9:00 am in the main exhibit hall of the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center in Balboa Park. Free parking available.

Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade

12/11/11 Once a year San Diego pets and owners are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes for a special promenade throughout the Gaslamp Quarter to celebrate the holiday season. You can only imagine the fun and excitement as downtown became filled with costumed pets & their handlers all vying for prizes and bragging rights including Best Costumed Duo, Cutest Critter, Best Pet Costume & Best of Show!

The Parade originates and concludes at the Hilton Park adjacent to the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter at 4th Avenue and K Street. The Parade steps-off promptly at 3:00 pm. Enjoy our Pet Expo in Hilton Park throughout the afternoon.

Intersection of one of the thirteen full moons with the calendar’s twelve months is the factor which adds the greatest variation to the Carnival season. As you see from the calendar above, Fat Tuesday is not the same from year to year. Fat Tuesday and Lent Wednesday are tied to Easter celebrations, that can fall on any Sunday from March 23 to April 25. It falls on the first Sunday succeeding the first full moon after the Spring Equinox.

Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego’s downtown is happening anytime but on one special night, the flavor of the streets takes on a uniquely Southern bend with Mardi Gras happenings. SoCo & Lime Hurricanes! are being recognized as the Southern California alternative to New Orleans, LA Mardi Gras offerings. Nowhere is Mardi Gras recognized more than in New Orleans, where a local bartender founded Southern Comfort (SoCo) in 1874. San Diego’s Gaslamp Mardi Gras will be having a SoCo libations during its very own big, easy Mardi Gras celebration. A New Orleans-style street fair that includes bands, street performers, and an incredible masquerade parade are going to make this the top place to celebrate in California.
